Sunset Beach Access: Fixed Up and Looking Good

We’ve Got Good News

This summer, we rolled up our sleeves and got the State Beach Access Point at Sunset Beach back in shape. After Hurricanes Helene and Milton, thousands of pounds of sand got pushed inland, burying the rope-and-pile fencing and covering the informational signage. People could still get to the beach, but the access point had shifted, looked beat up, and needed attention.

Now, after some serious cleanup and repair work, it’s back to looking great—and most importantly, clearly marked for safe use. We’ll let the before and after photos do the talking.

What We Did

- Straightened things out. The entrance was shifted—now it’s back where it belongs.

- Dug out and reset barriers. Buried rope-and-pile fencing was uncovered and rebuilt.

- Made it easy to find. The signage is visible again, so no more guessing where the access is.

And here’s the best part: this project was accomplished by several dedicated, extremely hard-working volunteers. They gave their time and energy to make sure the job got done right, and we couldn’t be more grateful.

OUR BEAUTIFUL BEACH NOW

But Wait, There’s More…

Big thanks to the owner of 740 Gulf Lane, who gave us the green light to extend the rope-and-pile fencing across their property. This simple step makes a huge difference: it keeps golf carts from driving onto the beach and tearing up dunes—or worse, destroying sea turtle nests. Even better, it blocks one of the main access points where carts were illegally entering the beach.

That’s neighbors helping neighbors and protecting our beautiful yet fragile beach at the same time.

Why It Matters

This project is exactly what North Captiva Conservation is all about:

- Conservation: Protecting dunes and wildlife from damage.

- Beautification: Cleaning up and restoring spots that took a hit from storms. An access point isn’t just a walkway—it’s a symbol of how we care for our island.
